Symbols of the United States

Today, Ms. Bosley tried something new--research! We had never really done this before, so we decided to try an experiment to see how 6 and 7 year olds could do, and it worked beautifully!

Each small group of 3-4 students was assigned to a US symbol. They were to use provided books to "research" their symbol, then present the information to the class. Groups had to work together to locate answers to certain questions and some really wonderful discussions began!

I was so proud to see the kids asking all sorts of questions and discussing information they were reading with each other! We will have to do this again soon!

Dottie's group researched the Statue of Liberty

Sofia and Claire researching the Washington Monument

 Researching the Capitol Building

Emma and Chris learning about the bald eagle

Rory and Medha researching the Liberty Bell

We found the answer we were looking for! The Washington Monument is 555 feet tall!

 Time to present

Inventors

Mrs. Bosley taught a unit on inventors! This unit was full of deep thinking questions, higher level thinking and applying the knowledge of inventors to ourselves. Check out the pictures below of the finished product-most of the class's favorite invention-the ipod!

How To Stories

January writing was all about how to stories. We learned how to write how tos and how to make them better. Check out pictures from our publishing party. The kids got to make supplies out of paper. When they met with their partner, they read their story to see if their partner could complete the task in their how to. It was a blast and they did an awesome job!

Happy 100th Day!

We made it to the 100th Day of School! We sure are 100 days smarter. We celebrated all day doing activities that involved the number 100. Check out what we did!

Rory turned his number 100 into a dumbbell!

 Peyton's 100 is now a monster truck!
(Don't you love his hat? 10 strips + 10 stickers or stamps on each strip=100 things!)

Logan and Brock made 100 with their fingers

Reindeer Day
Peyton and Dottie are working on a writing activity-What would happen if I grew antlers? There were some pretty great problems and solutions in these stories!

Emma is drawing herself with antlers! These pictures were so cute!
