Students are greeted, unpack backpacks and begin a daily warm-up activity. Then we move into calendar activities, poetry, language warm-up and other "get our day started" activities. For phonics/spelling, students will learn new sounds and how to write those sounds. We will practice applying the sound to all sorts of words through fun activities for the mind and body.
8:30-9:15 Reader’s Workshop
Students practice reading independently and read from a box of books that are self-selected. We have a sense of urgency to be good readers today! Students learn to take responsibility of their own reading.
9:15-10:15 Literacy Stations & Small Group Reading Instruction
Students will be ability grouped for this part of the day and work with the teacher in small groups, as well as engage in literacy stations for practice with phonics, spelling, reading and writing.
10:15-10:45 Recess/Restroom Break
Recess is located on the front playground. Some students may spend the first 10 minutes of recess in the Practice Room if there is unfinished work or if there is a skill the student needs to practice (walking in line, listening, etc.) Afterward, they are escorted to the playground.
10:45-11:15 Writer's Workshop
In this block, students will learn from a mini lesson, when the teacher models and teaches new writing skills. Then, students will get a chance to practice the writing skills taught and confer with the teacher.
11:15-11:45 Lunch/Lunch Recess
We arrive at the cafeteria at 11:15 and eat until 11:35. When students are finished they clean up their lunch and head outside for lunch recess.
11:55-12:15 Writer's Workshop (cont.)
Students will continue writing independently and conferring with the teacher. To conclude, students will have a chance to share.

12:15-1:20 Math
We will begin our math block with warm ups in math fluency. A new math skill will be introduced; students will have a chance to practice the skill using manipulatives and the hands on approach. Then they will show what they know in an independent activity. Students will also engage in math station at this time, rotating and practicing skills already learned.
1:20-2:20 CAMP
Students will attend 30 minutes of P.E. everyday and then alternate between Art, Computer and Music. Students are required to wear tennis shoes everyday to P.E.
2:20-2:45 Science or Social Studies
We rotate science and social studies weekly or biweekly. Lots of hands on fun and new discoveries!
