Spelling Review Week-Spice it up!

This week for spelling/phonics, we are reviewing all of the skills we have learned so far in first grade. It is important to review and keep these skills fresh!

Your child will receive a spelling review with all the skills and words they are expected to know. There are activities listed as homework for each day, but..... I thought this might help make reviewing more fun!

You have a choice to participate in one or more of the following activities every night this week in place of your written homework. What that means is, if you do one of the activities listed below, you do not have to complete the written work on the homework!

Here are some spelling activities to spice up your spelling practice!

1. Play dough spelling-have your child use play dough to model letters for spelling words.

2. Sand spelling-your child can use their finger to trace the letters in the sandbox!

3. Sidewalk chalk spelling-go outside and use chalk to spell your words for the day!

4. Rainbow spelling-your child can use a different color marker for each letter.

5. Paint your words-use paint to spell your spelling words for the day.

6. Computer spelling-use the computer to type your words in a Word document.

7. Pipe cleaner spelling-use pipe cleaners to shape the letters for your review words.

8. Go to http://www.spellingcity.com and practice your words.

Just to be clear, your child is still accountable for doing all the assignments listed on the homework paper, however, if you choose to "spice it up" please write the activity your child completed along with your signature to confirm on the homework paper. Thank you for being a great supporter!
