Symbols of the United States

Today, Ms. Bosley tried something new--research! We had never really done this before, so we decided to try an experiment to see how 6 and 7 year olds could do, and it worked beautifully!

Each small group of 3-4 students was assigned to a US symbol. They were to use provided books to "research" their symbol, then present the information to the class. Groups had to work together to locate answers to certain questions and some really wonderful discussions began!

I was so proud to see the kids asking all sorts of questions and discussing information they were reading with each other! We will have to do this again soon!

Dottie's group researched the Statue of Liberty

Sofia and Claire researching the Washington Monument

 Researching the Capitol Building

Emma and Chris learning about the bald eagle

Rory and Medha researching the Liberty Bell

We found the answer we were looking for! The Washington Monument is 555 feet tall!

 Time to present
